Haven't had an energy audit yet?

Worried about what you may learn about your home's performance?

Curious as to what an audit report looks like?

We'll break it down for you! Having your home's performance and health evaluated, not unlike a doctor's appointment, can be a little scary. Philadelphia-area homes are some of the oldest in the country, which means lots of opportunities for upgrades and the potential for existing dangers. We've created a series of posts which break down an energy audit report to help you understand some common findings and what Orange Energy Solutions can do to remedy them.

Audit Report Part 1: Health and Safety

KNOB AND TUBE WIRING: Many older homes have knob and tube wiring to conduct electricity through the home. This must be removed prior to insulating as knob and tube wiring releases heat while conducting electricity, thus creating potential for fire if insulation is installed on existing wiring.

ASBESTOS: Asbestos was commonly used in the 19th century as building insulation and electrical insulation due to its resistance to fire. However, prolonged asbestos inhalation can cause serious health problems, including lung cancer and mesothelioma. Orange Energy Solutions will safely remove any existing asbestos and replace with safe, high-quality insulation per your home's requirements.

BACK DRAFTING: If your hot water heater has similar corrosion around the flue it could be back drafting. Repairing this issue is an important step in ensuring your home's health and safety. Proper ventilation of your heating system ensures your home's air quality and keeps harmful inhalants out of your home, including carbon monoxide.

CARBON MONOXIDE: High carbon monoxide (CO) levels can are extremely dangerous and can be deadly. Proper ventilation of equipment that produces CO, such as an oven, water heater, gas stove, wood burner, and oil furnace, is necessary to ensure the safety of the home's inhabitants. During an energy audit, your home's appliances are thoroughly tested for CO emission.

Aside from these health and safety issues, Orange Energy Solutions will be on the lookout for any other potentially damaging and dangerous issues within your home. Your family's health and safety is our number one priority!
