Meet our Staff

The management and staff of Orange Energy Solutions consists of professionals with experience and intimate knowledge of building science, construction, energy solutions, and finance.   Meet the leaders of Orange Energy Solutions:

John Kelly - Principal

John B. Kelly, a founder of Orange Energy Solutions, grew up in the Philadelphia area, attended LaSalle University as an undergraduate, and the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a Masters in Organizational Development. For 20 years John worked in various management roles at General Electric and Mars, Inc.   While working in corporate management, John maintained a passion for real estate and residential construction. In 2001, he founded Caledonia Renovations, a green construction company, which made use of “green” and energy efficient building techniques combined with the best building practices.

Caledonia Renovations has built some of the most energy efficient homes in the Delaware Valley, many of which have won prestigious design and construction awards.  One of those homes participated in the Devon Horse Show Fall Festival of Homes. Another project was awarded the Radnor Historical Society Preservation of the year.  John recognized the need and opportunity to help homeowners improve the performance of thier homes as well as the lack of qualified energy auditors and contractors which embraced the state of the art "whole house approach".  Caledonia Renovations is now the construction division of Orange Energy Solutions.  John is a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified building analyst, a certified Green Advantage Construction Professional, Lead Paint Renovation Certified and a Residential Energy Services Network trained professional.

Gary Kleiman - Principal

Gary D. Kleiman, a founder of Orange Energy Solutions, is also the founder of The Gemstone Group, a group of affiliated companies which develop and finance renewable energy projects.   Gary has been involved in renewable energy and energy efficiency for many years including participation in some of the early wind and solar projects in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Gemstone affiliates are also involved in aggregating renewable energy credits and provide asset management services for owners of solar systems.  Prior to founding Gemstone in 1993, Gary worked for PNC Bank for 12 years and was Managing Director of PNC Corporate Finance.

In addition to financing businesses and commercial scale renewable energy projects, Gary helped develop and operate two industry-leading consumer financing programs; The Keystone Home Energy Loan Program (Keystone HELP), a statewide residential loan program in Pennsylvania which is available to customers of Orange Energy Solutions and the Connecticut Solar Lease Program, the first state-sponsored residential solar lease program allowing homeowners to avoid the high upfront cost of a solar photovoltaic system for their home.  

Gary received a BS degree in Finance from Indiana University- Bloomington in 1982.  Gary also serves on the board of several companies and non-profit organizations and is a frequent speaker at renewable energy and energy efficiency conferences and trade shows.

Scott Sidlow- Manager of Building Analysis

Scott leads the Orange Energy Solutions building anaylsis group and serves as quality control manager for all services performed by the Company.  Scott is a home performance analyst with more than five years of experience.  He is a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified Building Analyst and Heating Professional and a Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) certified HERS Rater.  He has conducted approximately 200 energy assessments of exisiting homes and is recognized as one of the most professional and experienced building analysts in our region.  Scott has also rated and certified hundreds of new homes built to ENERGY STAR standards.  

Scott worked for MaGrann Associates, a well established building science analysis firm in the Philadelphia area for serveral years.  During his tenure he led MaGrann's efforts to incorporate the evaluation of existing homes into thier business.  Scott also worked for Rittenhouse Electric Supply Company where he specialized in energy efficient lighting.        

Todd Baker - Production Manager

Todd leads the Orange Energy Solutions home performance improvements team.  He is a BPI Certified Building Analyst and Whole House Air Leakage Control Thermal Enclosure Specialist and EPA Lead Paint Renovation Certified.  He ensures that the recommendations made by the building analysis group are properly implemented and installed.  Before joining Orange Energy Solutions, Todd was the co-owner and operator of Baker Home Improvements for six years.  He also worked for ServiceMark and Parker Wastewater Consulting. 

Rich Hoover - Building Analyst
Rich is a BPI certified Building Analyst, and performs most of the Home Energy Assessments for Orange Energy Solutions' customers. Before joining Orange Energy Solutions, Rich studied green roof technology at The Pennsylvania State University where he earned a Master's degree in Horticulture. Passion for environmental responsibility and conservation led him to a career saving energy in homes throughout the Delaware Valley.

Katie Gwirtz - Production Assistant

Katie is the production assistant and is in charge of marketing for Orange Energy Solutions. She assists management in scheduling home performance and construction work and handles logistics related to crew, equipment, and materials. Katie received a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management from Kent State University in 2011. Katie is currently attending graduate school at Philadelphia University to obtain a Certificate in Sustainable Practices.
